NSW Bookies Plead For Net Betting

Tuesday, 28th February 2006

NSW bookmakers "will be forced to move their business interstate or face extinction unless the Iemma Government introduces legislation to allow them to accept bets over the internet," reported The Daily Telegraph. Some of Sydney's leading fielders "made these dire predictions after learning of the Victorian Government's moves to approve internet betting for bookmakers" (see yesterday's Daily News). In what is claimed as "a world first, Racing Victoria & the Victorian Bookmakers' Association have unveiled a new internet betting model with a virtual trading platform of odds from all on-course bookies"; the system "is expected to be in place by August".
