Gambling Machines Legal At Birmingham

Tuesday, 7th February 2006

The return of thoroughbred racing to Birmingham Race Course in Alabama "might now be possible after a judge ruled that 1,300 sweepstakes gambling machines installed there last year are legal under state gambling law," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Thoroughbreds have not raced at Birmingham since 1995 & track owner Milton McGregor said revenues from the machines "could pave the way for the return of horse racing at Birmingham". Jefferson County (Alabama) sheriff's deputies "confiscated about 300 of the machines during a raid on the track late last year, shortly after the track unveiled 1,300 machines for operation".
