Tuesday, 29th November 2005

In New Zealand, 3YO Black Panther (Kaapstad-Toonsie, by Affirmed) came from the rear of the field to win the 1st leg of the NZB Insurance Triple Crown Series at Ellerslie in Auckland, with victory (ridden by Grant Cooksley for trainer Richard Yuill) in the NZ$20,000 NZB Insurance Triple Crown Plate (1600m). The victory puts Black Panther in contention for a NZ$100,000 Triple Crown bonus for any 3YO who can win all 3 races in the Series: he will secure NZ$205,000 prize-money plus the NZ$100,000 bonus if successful in the NZ$35,000 NZB Insurance Cup (2000m) on December 11 & NZ$150,000 Gr2 Great Northern Guineas (2000m) on December 26. Black Panther has now won 3 of his initial 5 starts.
