Goffs Ireland Day-1: $102,000 Captain Rio Filly

A day earlier NZ's Westbury Stud shuttler Captain Rio "made an immediate impact in the sale ring with his 1st progeny offered" during the opening session at the 5-day Goffs Ireland November Foal Sale, reported thoroughbrednews.co.nz. Captain Rio provided the top 2 lots: BBA Ireland's Patrick Cooper paid €64,000 (A$102,000) for a Captain Rio-Choice Pickings filly (consigned by Mount Pleasant Farm); & a Captain Rio-In Denial colt (consigned by Darnstown Stud & a half-brother to winners Overdrawn & Contrite) sold for €55,000 (A$88,000). Overall on Day-1, 13 Captain Rio weanlings sold for an average €18,269 (A$29,000). Captain Rio is currently serving his 2nd southern hemisphere season at Westbury Stud before returning to Ballyhane Stud in Ireland for the northern hemisphere season.
