McEvoy Injured In Melb Race Fall

Monday, 7th November 2005

In the dramatic middle stages prior to the victory by Glamour Puss in the Gr2 Age Classic (down the straight 1200m) at Flemington, star South Australian jockey Kerrin McEvoy (Godolphin's number 2 international jockey, visiting Melbourne for the Victorian Spring Carnival) was rushed to hospital after falling dramatically from the favourite Queen Of The Hill, when the 3YO filly clipped heels of Cape Of Good Hope at the 750m. McEvoy was caught in his mount's hind legs as he fell & then lost several teeth & suffered facial lacerations (which later required surgery at Epworth Hospital) when struck in the head by following horse Bomber Bill. However The Sydney Morning Herald reported McEvoy was "in good spirits after plastic surgery on Saturday night" & Victorian Jockeys Association chief executive Des O'Keeffe confirmed: "The surgeon was real happy with how things went."
