5,000 Wins To US Jockey Stevens

Wednesday, 2nd November 2005

US Racing Hall-Of-Fame jockey Gary Stevens notched his 5,000th career victory when Joint Aspiration won the Gaviola Stakes at Belmont Park, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Stevens, 42, became the youngest rider to surpass US$100 million in earnings in 1993 & subsequently won the 1998 US Eclipse Award for that year's outstanding jockey. However Stevens (who made his acting debut by playing jockey George Woolf in the movie Seabiscuit) retired from riding in 1999 after having a cyst removed from his right knee; he spent 10 months working as a jockey's agent & assistant trainer before returning to riding.
