Shirocco Wins US Gr1 BC Turf

Monday, 31st October 2005

European-based horses filled the top 4 places as Baron Georg von Ullman's home-bred German 4YO Shirocco (Monsun-So Sedulous, by The Minstrel) scored a 1.75-lengths victory in the US$2 million Gr1 Breeders' Cup Turf (12 furlongs on turf) at Belmont Park, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Shirocco (ridden by Christophe Soumillon for trainer Andre Fabre) defeated the Irish-trained pair Ace (Danehill-Tea House, by Sassafras) & Azamour (Night Shift-Asmara, by Lear Fan). Shirocco now has 4 wins in 9 starts for US$2,024,086 earnings; last year he won both the Gr1 German Derby & Italy's Gr1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club & most recently he finished 4th in France's Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in Paris on October 2. Trainer Fabre (who now has 4 Breeders' Cup victories) said Shirocco "will stay in training & target next year's big international races in both Europe & the US".
