Starcraft To Arrowfield In 2006
Arrowfield Stud has purchased an interest in Paul Makin's 5YO multiple Gr1 winner, classic winner & current champion international miler Starcraft (Soviet Star-Flying Floozie, by Pompeii Court). Terms were agreed soon after Starcraft's recent win in England's Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (at Newmarket on September 24), but the ownership change will not be effected until after Starcraft's US Gr1 Breeders' Cup appearance at Belmont Park in New York on Saturday October 29. Arrowfield boss John Messara commented: "Starcraft is quite unique. He is, in fact, Australia's best internationally performed horse since Strawberry Road over 20 years ago. Starcraft is a multiple G1 winner in both hemispheres. He was Australia & New Zealand's Champion 3YO in 2003-04 & now rated at 124lb is the Top Older Miler on turf in the World Thoroughbred Racehorse Rankings. His achievements cannot be underestimated. We will assist Starcraft's owner Paul Makin to charter a Northern Hemisphere stud career for the stallion, which may include participation by a Northern Hemisphere stud & partial syndication in Australia." Starcraft's versatility is emphasised by Gr1 wins from 1400m to 2400m. Messara added: "From our own Australian point of view, I am just very pleased he is so good on turf, as that is what works best here; but if he were to win the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Classic on dirt, I guess this would widen the horizons for him as a stallion." Starcraft (an NZ$80,000 yearling at the 2002 NZB Karaka Premier Sale in Auckland) currently has 11 wins & 7 placings in 21 starts; he will begin Southern Hemisphere stud duties at NSW Hunter Valley-based Arrowfield Stud at Scone in the 2006 breeding season.
