Piccadilly In Foal To Causeway

Friday, 14th October 2005

Piccadilly Circus (dam of triple Gr1-winning sprinter Fastnet Rock) "is scheduled to return to Australia by the end of the year after a series of overseas trips for specialised veterinary treatment to alow her to continue her breeding career," reported The Sydney Morning Herald. After "3 successive & frustrating non-pregnancies, Piccadilly Circus's owners decided to ship the mare to Ireland in 2003 for a covering by Danehill (whose shuttling career to Australia had been curtailed that year)". Coolmore's Australian boss Michael Kirwan (a part-owner of Piccadilly Circus) explained: "We had received good reports about a surgeon at the University of Texas Dr Dixon Varner &, with Fastnet Rock winning group races in Australia, we decided to send her to America for further treatment, arriving there last January. Piccadilly Circus had reconstruction work done & we gained a good prognosis afterwards, so we decioded to chance her with a southern hemisphere mating with Giant's Causeway, whose shuttling to Australia had also been cancelled this year. Last weekend we received the great news Piccadilly Circus had been scanned in foal to Giant's Causeway & the plan is for her to return to the Hunter Valley, where she will foal down next year at Coolmore."
