Move By Top NZ Trainer

Tuesday, 11th October 2005

Meanwhile Kiwi trainer Frank Ritchie (who prepared 1986 Gr1 Cox Plate winner Bonecrusher) "will re-locate his stables from Takanini to Cambridge over the NZ Labour Day long weekend (October 22-24)" reported NZ Thoroughbred Marketing. Ritchie's move to a 30-acre property at Cambridge "co-incides with the closure (at the end of this month) of the Takanini training track where he has trained for the past 17 years". Ritchie commented: "I've got mixed emotions about the move. On the one hand I'm looking forward to training from a new set-up at Cambridge, but there's a lot of history which goes with Takanini & we've had some great gallopers trained from here over the years, including Sunline (all-time leading Australasian money-winner)." As well as Bonecrusher (Pag Asa-Imitation), Ritchie's other Takanini-trained stars include Gr1 South Australian Derby winner Showella, NZ Gr1 Waikato International Stakes winner Bluebird The Word & Gr1-placed sprinter Gwen's Rules. Ritchie will have 14 horses in work at Cambridge, including last season's Wellington Cup runner-up Gorgeous George (Turtle Island-Red Briar).
