TVN May Bid For Tabcorp Licence
And "in what could turn out to be another blow to $9 billion gaming giant Tabcorp", Racing Victoria chairman Graham Duff "has given a strong indication that his organisation is prepared to bid for Tabcorp's Victorian wagering licence when it comes up for renewal," revealed Business Review Weekly. At the end of a 3-page analysis, the magazine sums up: "Tabcorp's chief executive Matthew Slatter has 2 options: sell Sky Channel now for a decent price or sit tight & hope the racing industries of Victoria & Sydney will roll over (in the current TV wars). But the risk Tabcorp faces is that as its wagering turnover continues to decline, Sky Channel may eventually lose the rights to racing in South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, Queensland & country NSW as its exclusive contracts with the racing industries expire. TVN chairman Harold Mitchell said: 'I am absolutely certain that all thoroughbred racing clubs will join TVN'."
