Sun City Overview
An impressive type who sold for $525,000 as a yearling, Sun City (Zoustar) was the most expensive Zoustar sold from his sire’s second crop. And as expected, he hit the ground running, being seen out in the first juvenile stakes race of the season where he ran second behind Unite and Conquer. Sun City showed his precocity, having two starts before Christmas, both in Listed company, then he broke his maiden in emphatic style in the Gr3 BJ McLachlan Stakes over 1200m at the end of the calendar year.
A joint infection ruled him out of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and after a long layoff, Sun City attempted a return to the track as a 3YO. His trainer, Tony McEvoy, said, “He is a genuine Gr1 talent. Sadly injury prevented him from fulfilling that ability.” What was bad news for his racing owners, is good news for breeders, as they can access a good looking, precocious, fast son of a rising stallion for a reasonable fee.
Zoustar burst onto the stallion scene when his star filly Sunlight won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, and she went on to be the Champion 3YO Filly in Australia. Recently retired, she won eleven races, five at two, and three Gr1 races including the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, a race also won by Zoustar himself. Sun City is from Zoustar’s second crop, and is one of thirteen stakes winners for the young stallion who is rising through the ranks of the top quality stallions in Australia.
Sun City is out of 2YO stakes winner Roulettes whose four foals to race are all winners, including stakes placed Star of Jupiter. This is a strong colonial family with many early developing types throughout the family, and the family has crossed well with the Danehill line. Not just through Roulettes, who is by Flying Spur, but also with South African stakes winner Sir Frenchie (Choisir), and Fastnet Rock sired trio of Albany Reunion, Fast Dragon, and Rock Robster.
An early developing speedster by a hot young sire from a precocious family, Sun City offers breeders a chance to find the next juvenile star.

Close Sunlight Relative Offered by River JunctionMon, 9 Nov 2020
A full-sister to the dam of Sunlight is among the standout lots offered in Inglis Digital's November (Early) Online Sale, which opened for bidding on Friday afternoon. Soul Mama (Charge Forward), a winner over 1000m and the dam of multiple Hong Kong winner Hercules, is offered by River Junction with a Better Than Ready colt at foot, that was born just 14 days ago. She is out of Danehill mare Soul Singer and is a sister to multiple 2YO Stakes winner Solar Charged, the dam of triple G1 winner Sunlight – who recently sold for $4.2 million as a broodmare – plus Group-winner Sisstar and stakes-placed juvenile Sheikha. In total, 153 lots have been catalogued in the November (Early) Online Sale - 91 racehorses (47 race fillies), 32 broodmares, 13 yearlings, 13 racehorse shares and four unbroken stock. Among other considerable highlight lots is Segenhoe Valley – a young mare from the family of Parlophone, Vezalay and Sun City, now the dam of Shelby Cobra (Toronado), winner of Saturday's Listed Amanda Elliott at Flemington. Segenhoe Valley is offered with a Toronado full-sister to Group-bound Shelby Cobra, born October 26.
Parlophone Prefers Female JockeysWed, 19 Aug 2020
Listed winner Parlophone (I Am Invincible-Roulettes, by Flying Spur) prefers female jockeys, at least that's according to her trainer Mick Price, reports racenet.com.au. "She has done (attempted to buck) it three times, she did it with D Oliver at Sandown once, she did it at her first start with D Oliver and went horrible but then Jess Eaton (see below) found her no trouble at all," Price, who co-trains with Michael Kent Jr, said. "Today she gave Jamie Kah no dramas and she trialled well, Jamie couldn't fault her.How does a horse know whether it's a girl or a boy on top? How do they know when D Oliver gets on? The other day, Damien said she came out of the gates fine but when he asked to her improve she started to hump up." Parlophone, who is a half-sister to Gr3 winner and freshman Telemon stallion Sun City (Zoustar), has won two of her five starts. "She is a sprinter for a start and really the only Group 1 race I would think [might suit her]would be the Coolmore [but] I'm not saying she is that level," Price said. "I'm happy to run her in the fillies black-type races [that are suitable] for her and if she can knock off one of those that would be great."
Sun City Half Adds to Family SuccessMon, 27 Jul 2020
When Telemon Thoroughbreds made the prescient decision to stand one-time Magic Millions 2YO Classic favourite Sun City on debut this year, his 2YO half-sister Parlophone (I Am Invincible) had shown a bit of promise at her second start in January. Since then, when she finished a half-length runner-up to subsequent Gr1 Blue Diamond runner-up Personal – clearly a good form reference in hindsight – Parlophone has had two starts for two wins, the latest culminating in a 3-length blitz in Saturday's Listed Lightning Stakes at Morphettville. That prompted bookmakers to slash her odds for the Gr1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield in October from $51 to $15. Roulettes, the dam of Sun City and Parlophone, is a half sister to Gr1-placed Group winner Royal Discretion, and is turning into quite the broodmare; her four named foals are all winners, also including Parlophone's multiple Group-placed brother Spin who raced as Star of Jupiter in Singapore. Considered a genuine Group 1 talent by trainer Tony McEvoy, $525,000 yearling Sun City appears to be excellent value at $7,700. Click below for his 2020 Daily News Sires profile overview.
Sun City Adds to 2020 Telemon Sire LineupMon, 20 Jul 2020
The acquisition of one-time Magic Millions 2YO Classic favourite Sun City has added another key drawcard to the stallion ranks of Telemon Thoroughbreds in Queensland. Boasting a decades-long rich history in one of Australia's prime thoroughbred breeding regions, Telemon stood two very in-demand stallions in 2019, both of which are standing again in 2020: Champion 2YO Sidestep (Exceed and Excel), sire of Gr1 Golden Slipper heroine Kiamichi, and Jungle Cat (Iffraaj), a dual hemisphere Gr1 winner who proved equal to taking on Australia's best sprinters in their own domain and beating them. Newcomer Sun City, winner of Brisbane's Gr3 BJ McLachlan Stakes and also twice runner-up at stakes level from just 6 starts, is a son of leading Widden stallion Zoustar who stands at $121,000 in 2020. A cracking type who was A++ rated by True Nicks, Sun City ($525,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast sale) was the most expensive colt by his sire in 2018. Much admired, he was purchased by leading international judges David Redvers (on behalf of Qatar Bloodstock) and Mitchell McEvoy Bloodstock whose co-principal Tony McEvoy trained him. Boom Juvenile Retired to Kingstar FarmTue, 19 May 2020
Speed sensation Unite and Conquer (Sebring-Maglissa, by Magnus) will stand at Matthew Sandblom's Kingstar Farm, NSW, this season. An exceptional 2YO, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Unite and Conquer only raced three times but left a huge impression. The Hinchinbrook colt debuted in early November, demolishing his rivals in the Listed VRC Maribyrnong Trial at Flemington defeating the talented Sun City before being aimed at the Magic Millions 2YO Classic. Remaining undefeated, Unite and Conquer raced into favouritism for the rich Gold Coast juvenile feature in claiming the $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic over subsequent Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Exhilarates. “He’s a special colt. He’s showing us all the attributes of special colts we’ve had in the past like Pierro, Vancouver and Sebring,” said co-trainer Adrian Bott after that win. “He’s a big imposing colt with muscle on muscle, a real speed horse.” Unfortunately, the 2019 Magic Millions would be Unite and Conquers' last race, after suffering a tendon injury that would ultimately end his career.

Telemon Adds Third Stallion to 2020 RosterTue, 12 May 2020
Progressive Queensland stud Telemon Thoroughbreds has wasted little time in adding another spoke to its growing stallion wheel. Already boasting two high class sires, rising stud force Telemon’s latest recruit is the precocious Zoustar colt Sun City. With his sire in high demand after producing a number of exceptionally gifted sprinters, Sun City will be a popular addition to the sunshine state’s stallion ranks. Runner-up in Flemington’s Listed Maribyrnong Plate before winning the BRC’s BJ McLachlan Stakes ahead of Christmas, the speedy juvenile was strongly fancied for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic before illnes prevented him from running. The $525,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast graduate – the most expensive by his sire that year – either won or finished runner-up in every one of his juvenile starts – all at stakes level. “He is a genuine Gr1 talent. We clocked him as quick as [champion] Sunlight (Zoustar) on occasions. Sadly, injury has prevented him from fulfilling that ability,” noted his trainer Tony McEvoy. Sun City will stand for $7,700, alongside Champion First Season Sire Sidestep ($16,500) and dual hemisphere Gr1 winner Jungle Cat ($13,200). Telemon principal Dan Fletcher noted of the GST inclusive fees, “We’re confident we have found the right balance. The fees we have set are a reflection of the quality of our stallions whilst recognising the current difficult economic conditions”.

Sun City Resumes At SandownWed, 4 Sep 2019
Rated as one of the most promising juvenile colts in the country leading up to the 2019 Magic Millions 2YO Classic, 3YO colt Sun City (Zoustar-Roulettes, by Flying Spur) makes his long-awaited return to the track at Sandown on Wednesday over 1000m in Race 4. After winning the Gr3 B.J. McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on 29 December, Sun City was given a long break before reappearing in a 980m Cranbourne trial on heavy going, which he won handsomely. Also runner-up in the Listed Maribyrning Trial Stakes (1000m) at Flemington and the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes (1100m) at Doomben, his 63kg impost will be reduced to 60kg with the claim of apprentice Lewis German. Carrying the silks of Qatar Bloodstock for trainers Tony and Calvin McEvoy, Sun City holds entries for both the Gr1 Golden Rose in Sydney and Gr1 Caulfield Guineas in Melbourne. He tackles some progressive fellow 3YOs but should run a bold race first up at close to each-way odds.
Sun City Form Holds Canterbury ClueFri, 18 Jan 2019
Nobody would know better just how good juvenile colt Sun City is than trainer Tony McEvoy. Withdrawn from the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic field after picking up an infection, the son of Zoustar is yet to miss a place from three runs – all in stakes company. Despite his earlier two placings, winner Sun City didn't start favourite for the Gr3 B.J.McLachlan Stakes at Doomben. Instead, it was his stablemate Just Zerene (also by Zoustar) who was sent off a $2.60 pick on debut. A disappointing (at face value) sixth at her first start, Just Zerene gets her chance at Canterbury in Sydney on Friday night to show just why she was so heavily supported in Brisbane. Opened at $2.60, by Thursday evening she had come into $2.40 for Race 1 after drawing to do no work, and possibly dictate affairs from the rail.
Zoustar Progeny A Big Drawcard At Magic MillionsWed, 9 Jan 2019
By any definition few stallions have ever had a start to their careers to the extent Widden Stud's Zoustar has. The son of ill-fated sire Northern Meteor, who stood alternate seasons at Victoria's Woodside Park Stud during his early seasons, ensured a place in history for himself when siring the first three home in last November's Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes – an astonishing feat given the trio was from his very first crop. Aside from Sunlight (winner of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic), Zousain and Lean Mean Machine, Zoustar is also sire of Group winners Charge and Sun City (a 2YO MIA from this year's 2YO Classic due to a desperately unlucky infection). Throw in Queensland's undefeated stakes-winning excitement machine Zoustyle, Melbourne stakes-winner Persuader, and another trio of stakes-performers, and Zoustar's 10 black-type performers from less than one and a half seasons will ensure that buyers at the Gold Coast beat a path to his progeny's door. All-told, there are 51 yearlings by Zoustar catalogued, with 5 withdrawals. Widden Stud is offering a dozen of his youngsters after two of their original consignment were withdrawn.
Now Or Never For MM 2YO Classic HopefulsFri, 4 Jan 2019
At the Gold Coast in Brisbane there will be plenty of anxious connections ahead of Race 6. The 1100m sprint provides its 15 runners with their last opportunity to ensure a guaranteed start in the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on 12 January. With hard-luck stories already a reality for other possible contenders who have missed their chance at history, the first place purse for this race makes for a simple equation – win and you're in. There appear to be three main chances: The Odyssey, who defeated subsequent winner Sun City (now scratched from the 2YO Classic) in the Phelan Stakes, speedy Devine Factor who finished runner-up to Dubious on debut, and Godolphin's choicely-bred Exhilarates who powered home behind Unite and Conquer in the Wyong Millions. Betaima, Hightail and Lubuk are all chances, and trainer Tony McEvoy saddles promising Hills who won on debut at Ipswich when odds-on.
Sun City Wins Gr3 MM B.J.McLachlan StakesWed, 2 Jan 2019
%%20181229_DOO_R5:M M B.J. McLachlan Stakes%%
At Doomben in Brisbane on Magic Millions Bloodstock’s traditional lead-up to its $10 million raceday, trainer Tony McEvoy produced another 2YO capable of winning the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m). Juvenile colt Sun City, an exciting son of Widden Stud’s boom stallion Zoustar, scored a 0.3-length win in the $200,000 Gr3 MM B.J.McLachlan Stakes (1200m), over fellow colts Rome and Krameric. The victory franked McEvoy’s assessment earlier in the week when his other entrant, unraced Zoustar filly Just Zerene, was backed off the map, with the trainer suggesting Sun City was the better chance given his race experience and better fitness levels. Despite that, as much as $9.00 was bet about Sun City whose only two prior starts had yielded placings in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes at Flemington (behind Unite and Conquer) and in the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes two weeks ago. A $525,000 yearling, consigned by Attunga Stud at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, Sun City’s earnings from his first three starts increased to $162,100. Out of the stakes-winning Flying Spur mare Roulettes, Sun City is named after South Africa’s glamorous casino located next to the Palace of the Lost City. He is a half-brother to last season’s 2YO Spin who placed in both the Gr2 Skyline Stakes and Gr3 Pago Pago Stakes.
The Odyssey Wins Listed Phelan Ready StakesMon, 17 Dec 2018
%%20181215_DOO_R4:Spirit Of Boom Phelan Ready%%
At Doomben in Queensland, 4-time stakes winning Lyndhurst Stud stallion Better Than Ready (More Than Ready-Sally's World, by Agnes World) secured his debut black type winner when The Odyssey (Better Than Ready-Jessica's Hope, by Snitzel) dashed clear to take the $125,000 Listed Phelan Ready Stakes (1100) for 2YO C&Gs by an authoritative 0.75-lengths over pre-post favourite Sun City and Kramerik. Kramerik's stablemate Lubuk looked a flashing light upcoming runner over slightly more ground when filling 4th position out wide. The victory took The Odyssey's record to 2 wins and 1 placing from only 3 starts and $161,050 in earnings. The colt was a bargain $30,000 2018 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling purchase from the draft of Millbrook. From a pedigree perspective, his 3rd dam Northern Valley is a three-quarter-sister to the lofty black-type names Green Dancer, Val Danseur and Soviet Lad. The Odyssey is now likely to head to the lucrative Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast on 12 January where he is currently on the 7th line of betting at 11-1.
Gold Coast 2YO Classic Favourite On TrialWed, 12 Dec 2018
This afternoon's Listed (R) Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic will provide a strong pointer to the $2 million Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YO Classic early in the New Year. A flawless winner of the Listed Maribyrnong Trial (1000m) at his only start where he went virtually pillar to post, juvenile colt Unite and Conquer has an extra 100m to cope with today as a stepping stone to the rich 1200m feature, but his 2.25-length defeat of Sun City was comprehensive and he has trialled well since. The $1.85 favourite is also $9.00 to repeat the dose at the Gold Coast, and the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained son of Hinchinbrook just has to negotiate the turn and a slightly wide draw to be the testing material. Champagne Boom's debut win in the Debutant Stakes (1000m) was also very impressive, and was followed by a close up third in the Gr3 Ottawa Stakes (1000m). Craig Williams is sticking with the daughter of Spirit of Boom and has made the trip from Melbourne to partner her here. Spaceboy was gapped by gun Godolphin 2YO Tassort when runner-up on debut in the Golden Gift Plate (1100m), but was very well specked; he draws to do little work and it'll be no surprise to see him improve with the experience under his belt.
Unite And Conquer Wins Listed Maribyrnong Trial StakesMon, 8 Oct 2018
%%20181006_FLE_R1:Maribyrnong Trial Stakes%%
At Flemington in Melbourne, Yarraman Park's ill-fated Gr3-winning & 4-time Gr1-placed stallion Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock-Snippets' Lass, by Snippets) added a Listed race success when 2YO Australian-bred colt Unite And Conquer (Hinchinbrook-Maglissa, by Magnus) signalled a bright future awaits when leading throughout for a sizzling debut win in the $120,000 Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000m) for 2YOs, defeating Sun City & Grand Scholar. An $80,000 purchase by his trainers Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott and Blueblood Thoroughbreds at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Musk Creek Farm, Unite And Conquer improved his record to 1 win from 1 start for $73,200 in earnings. Waterhouse said Unite And Conquer will now head to the Gr3 Maribyrnong Plate on 8 November. “He showed himself a lovely big strong type that would be well-placed down the straight and that will have him ready for the Maribyrnong Plate,” Waterhouse told Sky Racing.

Rialya Wins Gr3 Tattersall's CupMon, 24 Jun 2013
At Eagle Farm, Tamac Farm's Gr2-winning & dual Gr1-placed stallion Kempinsky (Danehill-Tristalove, by Sir Tristram) added a black-type success when 5YO gelding Rialya (Kempinsky-Ettu Blu, by Prince Echo) scored by 0.2 lengths-for trainer Lloyd Kennewell in the $200,000 Gr3 Tattersall's Cup (2200m) for 3YOs+, over fellow 5YO gelding Shenzhou Steeds (Ishiguru-Sun City, by Spectacular Love) & 7YO gelding Rothera (Tobougg-Nova Serrure, by Celestial Dancer). Rialya took his record to 8 wins (including 2012's Gr2 Adelaide Cup over 3200m and Listed Birthday Cup over 2028m) & 3 placings (including 2nd in 2012's Gr3 Lord Reims Stakes over 2600m) from 34 starts for $587,313 earnings.
